... Let the Children Come
Fifty-two Object Lessons For Children In Worship
Object:
A sheet of plain white paper
Good morning, boys and girls. Look what I've got with me today. (Wait for reaction.) What is this paper for? What are some of the uses we could make of it? (Take four or five answers or suggest some.) We could write a letter or story, draw a picture, roll it into a ball, tear it to bits, cut it into shapes, fold it, make an airplane.
Yes, I could do any of those things with my sheet of paper. Now let me tell you what I want to represent with this paper today. (Read Psalm 118:24.)
Let my paper represent the day that the Lord has given me today. If I were to represent my life, I would have one page for each day I have lived. Wouldn't that be a tall stack of paper?
In a very real sense, our days are like a sheet of paper. We record our deeds and actions of a lifetime in the volume that measures our lives. It is a book read by others as well as recorded with God.
We can make each day a day of praise and blessing, or a day of disobedience and badness -- happiness, failure, or accomplishment. God has given us each day just as a clean, new sheet of paper, to do with as we will.
Will you think of your days as a gift from God to use in ways that bring joy to you, help to others, and praise to God?
I've decided to make my day a happy one. So, I'm going to ... (Do something with your paper -- like a paper airplane that is then sailed into the congregation.)
(Prayer of thanks for today.)
