John 20:30, 31
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.
COMMENTARY
Normally, we would expect to see the purpose of a book at its beginning, not buried almost at the end. John's motives are purer than pure. His labor in writing this Gospel is not for fame or gain, not just for the Gospel's sake, but for us, that we may believe.
