Teaching, Fellowship Is Bread, And Prayer

LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Fourth Sunday Of Easter
First Lesson: Acts 2:42-47
Theme: Teaching, Fellowship Is Bread, And Prayer
Call To Worship
Come to the body of Christ, to be strengthened by teaching, fellowship, bread, and prayer. Amen.
Collect
Great signs and wonders we seek, O Lord, and the greatest of these signs and wonders is this precious fellowship you have shared with us through the believers who have come here to worship you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
What do I clutch within my heart, unwilling to share with my sisters and brothers? What do I hoard within my home or my wallet which might do good within this fellowship of Christ? What do I fear from the family of God that makes me reluctant to pray for my fellow worshipers? Why do I wonder if I have nothing in common when the first in the faith shared everything in common? Let us resolve as God's people to emulate those who first followed in the footsteps of Christ, becoming one people who worship one God. Mold us, Lord, into your people. Perfect us in our suffering and our striving. Not our will, Lord, but yours. Amen.
Hymns
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
"Heart With Loving Heart United"
"Blest Be The Tie"
Fourth Sunday Of Easter
Second Lesson: 1 Peter 2:19-25
Theme: The Perfect Sacrifice
Call To Worship
Come to save us, Savior of our souls! Amen.
Collect
This new day can still afford
Forgiveness, great and mighty Lord.
We respond with true thanksgiving
And a pledge that changes living.
Prayer Of Confession (based on 1 Peter 2:19-25)
Lord, we endure in the midst of suffering, both just and unjust. Lord, we yearn for your approval. As your Son suffered for us, leaving us an example, call us to follow in his steps. Jesus committed no sin, and bore our sins in his body on the cross. Call us together that we might live for righteousness, healed by his wounds. For we were going astray like sheep, but now we yearn to return to the shepherd and guardian of our souls. Hear our prayers, spoken and unspoken, grant our requests, and fill us with resolve to work with each other and for your kingdom. These things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
Hymns
"Morning Has Broken"
"In The Bulb There Is A Flower"
"Wade In The Water"
Fourth Sunday Of Easter
Gospel Lesson: John 10:1-10
Theme: Return To The Shepherd!
Call To Worship (Psalm 23 [KJV])
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Collect
Father of glory, Lord of light, we turn to you today, recognizing you as Shepherd, Savior, and King. You lead us beside the still waters. You restore our soul. We come together this day and seek to follow you wherever you might lead us. Open our hearts and minds to your blessings which overflow. Let your goodness and mercy follow us all the days of our lives. Here in your house we call upon you to live and breathe and move in our midst. Alleluia. Alleluia. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
(sung to the tune of "Savior Of My Soul")
Sheep can go astray.
We had lost our way.
Praise to you who searched and found us.
You upon the cross astound us.
Freed from sin, we stay
By your side this day.
Hymns
"Lord, With Devotion We Pray"
"Revive Us Again"
"He Leadeth Me"
