Step back with me to the Upper Room the night of the Last
Supper. Jesus reintroduces a subject that he broached a week
earlier when he set his face steadfastly toward Jerusalem,
telling his disciples then that he must "undergo great suffering
and be killed and on the third day be raised." (Matthew 16:21,
NRSV) Peter then raged at him saying, "God forbid it, Lord! This
