Our visitors today are these little honeybees. I found them (tell the when, where, and how) and brought them to our class for you to see. A lot of people are afraid of bees because of their sting, but most bees are actually pretty calm and will only sting you if you step on them, swat at them, or frighten them in some way. The stinger is for their protection.
Bees are very important to us. They live in hives with hundreds of other bees and they are very busy creatures. Bees fly around looking for flowers. When they find some, they go back to the hive and tell their friends where the flowers are. Then the bees go to the flowers and collect the nectar and pollen. Nectar is the sweet juice of the flower. Pollen is a special kind of dust that flowers make. Some of the pollen falls off onto other flowers as the bees fly around. This is very good for the plants.
Do you know why the bees are doing all this? They are making honey! Back at the hive, they make honey from the sweet nectar they have collected. They store it in wax containers called a honeycomb. Honey is very sweet, and it is good for us. The more you eat it, the more you want.
I know something else that is like honey. It is good for us, too. Can you guess what it is? (indicate Bible) That's right. It's God's Word. God's Word is good for us. It gives us life and energy. It helps our spirits grow. And the more time we spend reading and listening to God's Word, the more we want. God's Word is sweet like honey.
