Pastoral Prayers For All Seasons
Object:
How beautiful and moving, gracious God, are your ways. "As far as the east is from the west so far you remove our transgressions from us." You renew our youth and crown us with a steadfast love that lives from everlasting to everlasting.*
No one has ever spoken to us as you have. No one else knows how to probe to the very depth of our soul and leave a message of faith, hope, and love.
Sometimes, when our days go well, we think ourselves to be capable and good. So we may be. Then when things go awry, we quickly discover how limited we are, and discover how resourceful you are. Your wisdom leads us to new solutions and higher vistas where we are enabled to see the truth as never imagined. How grateful we are.
Today we are especially mindful of our friends and loved ones who are in need of our prayers:
For those clinging to the last hours of life, we pray for peace and a beautiful passage home.
For those in pain, we seek relief. May healing come to refresh their spirits.
For those confused by the circumstance of their living, we request wisdom and patience.
For those who sorrow, we seek your comfort. Hold close our friends who have so recently come to know the chasm death creates.
For all of us who choose to walk in your ways, grant us insight and faithfulness. Guard us against ever failing to honor your name.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
* Psalm 103:4, 5, 12
