Lectionary Worship Workbook
Series III, Cycle A
Object:
Gathering Litany
Divide the congregation into two parts (left and right would be easiest here) with the choir or assisting minister as a third voice besides the pastor (marked "L" in this litany).
L: Looking for the Light.
I: Looking for the Light.
II: Looking for the Light.
P: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
L: Looking for the Light.
I: Looking for the Light.
II: Looking for the Light.
P: Do not be afraid.
Intercessory Prayers
L: There is no holding on to you, O God; there is only your word. Teach us, that we may not seek to control our own destinies, but that we would listen for your voice and seek your light. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
L: Death and sadness are around us; sorrow and pain are within us. We lift before you those whose words and faces we remember in our hearts ... make each life new. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
L: We thank you for your word, for the holy scriptures, for voices that speak your love. Make us attentive, that such goodness will not be used to judge neighbors or condemn those who seem different than ourselves, but that from our lips your words of blessing might come to expression, until that day comes when all will look to you alone. Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.
L: And for what else do the people of God pray ...
Offertory Prayer
A: Gracious God,
C: may our lives be so transformed by your light, that these gifts that we once called ours are now seen as yours alone. For your light, for your word, for your presence that makes all things new, we give you thanks. Amen.
Sending Prayer
P: Strengthen your people for the journey ahead;
guide them through all that life holds;
shine upon each one, until that great day comes
when your light alone will rise in every heart.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

Service Notes
Write out on individual pieces of construction paper the letters for the word "TRANSFIGURATION." Have them hidden throughout the sanctuary. Invite the children to help you find them and see all the different words that can be made until you put all the letters together to make one word. Transfiguration is the secret that leads us through Lent, when all the pieces of Jesus' ministry will come together in the Triduum.
