Pastoral Prayers For All Seasons
Object:
O God, our Creator, how blessed we are that you breathed yourself into us, making us in your image. What higher honor could we be granted? You have placed us over all creation -- even above the majestic mountains and the rolling seas. No one can bring us a higher honor, or give us a greater commission.
Yet, Lord, we often ignore who we are and act in embarrassing and destructive ways. We walk through life as if we were defeated. We transact our business in an apologetic manner, as if we weren't deserving of a high quality of service. We forget that we are meant to make a contribution to life; rather we wait in some hidden place, hoping no one will see us.
Today, enable us to become the persons you wish us to be. Grant us the courage and wisdom needed to bring our work into victorious and productive days.
You alone can save us. We alone can say, "Yes," to your magnificent plan. In the power of the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen.
