Sundays after Epiphany
Prayer
Pastoral Prayers For All Seasons
Object:
Sometimes, O God, we stand within our self-made world and believe that we are seeing all that can be seen. As we grow more accustomed to our world, we may even become convinced that our viewpoint of life is truth itself.
But when you come into our lives, our old world is broken into pieces and a new world rises from shattered remnants. What a fearful and glorious moment that is.
Save us, O God, from our so-called truths that imprison us. Bring us to your truth. Grant us the courage to see beyond truth as we have fashioned it, to the truth that is clearer than a mountain stream and more enduring than the mountains themselves.
Blind spiritual eyes present a challenge to become acquainted with life in new and different ways. A blind man leads to the death of our souls. He is forever at work keeping all aspects of life cornered into some kind of pinched understanding. Everything new becomes an enemy. Everything not understood gives rise to hell itself.
Holy Spirit, enter and dwell in our minds. May we know the joy that comes in a life ever renewed and everlasting. Thank you for your immeasurable love and grace. Thank you for open vistas, for sweeping, color-laden scenes, that leave us speechless in their grandeur. We thank you for your truth.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
