The spirit reveals
Children's sermon
Object:
a Greek New Testament
Good morning! How many of you own your own Bible? (Let them
answer.) When you read the Bible, do you find some things that
are hard to understand? (Let them answer.) Yes, I think there are
some tough things to comprehend in the Bible. After all, the
Bible is God's Word, and it's not always easy to understand God.
He is so much greater than we are and much more complex.
Now, I brought a New Testament with me this morning and I
want someone to read a verse for us. Can I have a volunteer? (Let
somebody agree to read.) Okay, ________, read this verse right
here (show a verse in the Greek New Testament). Of course, you
can't read it because it's in Greek, the language that the New
Testament was written in originally. What this says is (translate
the verse into English). Now why could I read that while
__________ couldn't? (Let them answer.) Yes, I could read it
because I was trained to read it when I went to the seminary. If
you had studied Greek, you could have read it, too.
Just as I needed someone to teach me to read Greek, we all
need someone to teach us to understand the Bible even when it is
written in English. The Bible tells us who we need to ask for
help when we have difficulty understanding what God is saying to
us in the Bible. Who will help us? (Let them answer.)
The Holy Spirit will help us. The Bible says that the Holy
Spirit will reveal the meaning of God's word to us. So when you
have trouble understanding your Bible, pray for the Holy Spirit's
help and he will reveal the meaning to you. Let's do that now.
Holy Spirit of God: Please be a light for us and show us what the
Word of God is telling us in the Bible. We thank You for
comforting us and revealing the truth to us. Amen.
