Such A Good Time

Matthew To Revelation
Object: a bag of popcorn or peanuts
Good morning, boys and girls. Tell me about some place you have been where you really had a good time. (let them answer) What place did you visit where you wished that you did not to leave and come home very soon? (let them answer) I just love to go to the movies and watch a very good picture show. Sometimes I hope that the show will not end and I can go on watching it forever.
Have you ever felt like I feel? (let them answer) I would like to have a bag of popcorn and a good seat and just sit there and watch the movie. Of course, I would like to have a big bag of popcorn and go to a baseball or basketball game. When I eat popcorn, it reminds me of something that I like to do so much that I don't care if I ever stop.
The reason I told you about the popcorn is because it reminds me of one day when Peter, James, and John were with Jesus on the top of a mountain. Something wonderful happened. While the disciples were looking around, Jesus turned the whitest white they had ever seen. His clothes were so white they seemed to shine. Also while they were watching him, two other people appeared whom they had never seen before. They had not climbed the mountain, but suddenly they were just there and it amazed the three disciples. Even though no one told them, they knew who the other two men were, and they said so. It was Moses and Elijah, and even though they had been dead for many, many years, the disciples knew who they were. It was a wonderful moment and one that they would never forget.
If you can imagine seeing something like this, you will also understand what Peter meant when he looked at Jesus and told him that he would be glad to build three tents so that they could stay a while. Peter did not want to leave. He wanted to build a place for Jesus, one for Elijah, and one for Moses so that they could be comfortable. Peter did not want to leave. Does that sound familiar? It should. That is the way that all of us feel when we are doing something that we like so much. Peter loved it. It was the most wonderful thing that had ever happened to him and he wanted to stay.
Of course, they didn't stay on the top of the mountain and Peter did not build the three tents. You don't stay in the movies or at the ballgame after it is finished. But the next time that you eat some popcorn or go to the show and you are having such a good time that you don't want to leave, then think about Peter and the time that he shared with Jesus, Moses, and Elijah, on the mountain and you will understand why he didn't want to leave either.
