It was just before World War II. Dusk had fallen, and Christmas Eve begun. The Princeton University campus was white with snow as carolers strolled from house to house of faculty members. They would sing a Christmas carol or two at each place.
When they came to a certain house they paused. Should they sing to a Jew? But in a festive mood they stepped up to the door and began to sing a carol. Soon a man came to the door and greeted them warmly. Then reaching behind him he came up with a violin.
