Expression: Stiffnecked
Location: Acts 7:51
Verse: Ye stiffnecked [people] and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist [oppose] the Holy Ghost [Spirit]: as your fathers [ancestors] did, so do ye.
In biblical times, the ox was used to plow fields and pull carts. Oxen were stubborn and hard to manage. When an ox would stiffen the muscles in its neck, it was very difficult to guide.
Stiffnecked is an expression to identify people who are defiant, stubborn, and willful as oxen.
