Preaching In The Paperless Pulpit
We are coming to the end of the week -- Friday, if not Saturday. Our week has been spent working through the acts of rhetoric. We first engaged in study (what Cicero called invention) that determined the content of the sermon, and resulted in a single pithy statement of what the sermon was to be about (the "theme sentence"). The theme sentence became the first act of the next step, which was composition of the first draft of the sermon, in which we paid careful attention to the sermon's form, both structure and language (Cicero's arrangement and style).
