THE SONG AND THE STORY
The Church of San Clemente, located about 300 yards from the Coliseum in Rome, is a graphic symbol of the contemporary liturgical renewal in the churches of Christendom. A place of public worship has continuously stood on that spot since late in the first century A.D. The present building was erected in the twelfth century, soon after the Normans had razed the edifice that had been built there after the Edict of Milan. That church, in turn, was constructed on the ruins of the home of Saint Clement, the third bishop of Rome. Clement's home had been destroyed during the terrible fire in A.D.
