THE SONG AND THE STORY
It has been many years since I first read Thomas Chalmers' famous sermon, "The Expulsive Power of a New Affection." Until recently, it was one of the almost universally-studied sermons in theological schools, largely because of Chalmers structure and style. It ought to be studied today - not for matters of language and form - but for its origin. The story behind it is what makes it interesting and pertinent to contemporary story preaching.
