Call To Worship
Leader: Because the Lord is righteous and good, he teaches sinners the path they should follow.
People: He leads the humble in the right way, and teaches them his will.
Leader: The Lord is the friend of those who obey him;
People: and he affirms his covenant with them. Amen.
Collect
Creator God, you have shown us that you are a God of mercy and forgiveness. We know that your Son came into the world not to destroy, but to bring new life. We see the rainbow in the sky as a sign of your covenant to renew and reform us and your creation which we have often spoiled by greed and careless use. May this time of worship, Lord, be a time when your Spirit intercedes to remake and remold us according to your image. In Jesus's name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Merciful God, under the rainbow of your covenant we come seeking forgiveness for our sins and reformation of our lives that we might be a part of your creative process in the world rather than sharing in its destruction. Amen.
Hymns
"Seek The Lord"
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
First Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: 1 Peter 3:18-22
Theme: Christ Suffered To Bring Us To God
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!
People: God has blessed us; let all the ends of the earth fear him!
Leader: Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near;
People: let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts. Amen.
Collect
O God, who sent your Son into the world that everyone might be reconciled to you, grant that following the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and walking in the way which you choose for each of us, we may be united to each other and to you in holy love; through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God and Father of us all, we were created by you to live in harmony with you, with one another, with the world around us, and with ourselves. By our own choices we have so often lived in discord, confusion, and weakness. Through your Son, Jesus Christ, you have come to us with outstretched arms of love, calling for us to live once again in harmonious relationships. We come now to receive your never-failing love and forgiveness. Amen.
Hymns
"My Hope Is Built"
"To God Be The Glory"
First Sunday In Lent
Gospel Lesson: Mark 1:9-15
Theme: Temptation And Repentance
Call To Worship
Leader: Lift up your souls to the Lord.
People: We lift them up to our God in whom we trust.
Leader: Make us to know your ways, O Lord; teach us your paths.
People: Lead us in your truth, and teach us, for you are the God of our salvation.
Collect
O God, we have come together in the beauty of this place to renew our spirits and gain both guidance and strength for the living of our days. Like our Lord, long ago, we have faced our temptations. Help us now to put on that newness of life which you offer to us in Jesus, that we may live alive in the spirit of his love. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, we have not always been as kind, patient, and loving with one another as you are with us. Forgive us, we pray, and enable us to witness to your love by the lives we live. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O Love, How Deep"
"Help Us Accept Each Other"
