Seventh Sunday Of Easter
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Acts 1:6-14
Theme: Angels?
Call To Worship
Even the disciples needed an emissary in the time between the ascension and the Holy Spirit's coming. They asked questions of Jesus until the last moment. Let us be aware of the intermediaries God also sends for our support.
Collect
We bring our trust to you, O God, especially when we are filled with doubt and puzzling. We listen for any hints of direction for our lives that you choose to impart. With the hope of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Like the disciples' need for an emissary, we too would rather ask until the last moment the questions that mark our insecurity. At the right time, guide us away from pondering distress and toward the action that faith engenders. Amen.
35A Hymns
"[Ye][You] Servants Of God" Tune: HANOVER
"Be [Now][Thou] My Vision" Tune: SLANE
"Have Faith In God, My Heart" Tune: SOUTHWELL
Seventh Sunday Of Easter
Second Lesson: 1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11
Theme: God Of Grace
Call To Worship
Cast all your anxiety on God, the writer says. Don't just stand quietly before God with your woes. Get rid of them. Put some energy into it like the fishers of Jesus' day who hurled their nets into the sea. Come deliberately to God with your troubles, because our God of grace cares enough for you to receive your anxiety and thereby to relieve it.
Collect
Who is this God who accompanies us through all ordeals? The God of all grace who has called us to God's eternal glory in Christ, who will restore, support, strengthen, and establish us. Praise be to God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
When we are troubled, our anxieties circle around and around inside us like a thunderstorm squalling into the night. Keep us in touch with you during these times, Compassionate Sustainer, so we will remember you and come to you with our burdens. In the name of Christ. Amen.
35A Hymns
"Blessed Jesus, At Thy Word" Tune: LIEBSTER JESU
"Give To The Winds Thy Fears" or "Give Up Your Anxious Pains" Tune: ICH HALTE TREULICH STILL or ST. BRIDE
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling" Tune: BEECHER or HYFRYDOL
Seventh Sunday Of Easter
Gospel: John 17:1-11
Theme: Heart Talk
Call To Worship
Leader: We come to this place to speak heart to heart with God. We can tell God what is on our minds and in our hearts.
People: We come to this place because we know Whose we are. Come, let us worship the God of all people in all time and in every place.
Collect
We come to you, all-encompassing God, with the assurance that you hear and care about what we have to say. Jesus turned us over to you with the same affection and concern with which he put his disciples into your care. We are yours forever. Amen.
Confession
At times, God, we lose inner sight of to Whom we belong. We forget who we are and wander about lost. Help us when we stand in need of prayer, O God, to make a little space for returning things to order. Guide us toward the right thinking that all people on earth dwell secure within your protective care. Amen.
35A Hymns
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" Tune: ST. DENIO
"[O Grant Us, God][Behold Us Lord], A Little Space" Tune: WINCHESTER OLD OR "It's Me, O Lord" Tune: PENITENT
"All People That On Earth Do Dwell" Tune: OLD HUNDREDTH
