Second Sunday After Christmas
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Word Became Flesh
Call To Worship
Leader: The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light.
People: Those who live in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.
Leader: Arise, shine, for your light has come;
People: and the glory of God has risen upon us.
Invocation
As the Magi of old followed the light of a star to find the Light of the World, so we come this morning, our Father, seeking light. We need the light which overcomes the darkness of ignorance. We need the light that exposes evil. We need the light that gives comfort and dispels fear. We need the light that reveals the way to eternal life. Open our eyes, we pray, to the light you have given us, and may we not be content until we kneel before the Christ, who is the Light of the World. Amen.
Confession
Lord, don't despair of us. We can hardly believe it ourselves. Yet we know it is true. We have seen the Light that came into the world with the birth of Christ, but we still choose to live in darkness. We choose hate instead of love, greed in place of generosity, selfishness when we should be self-giving. Forgive us, Lord, and shine your Light upon us that we may be worthy of fellowship with you. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord, we who have received the Light of the World realize that many have not yet known that glorious privilege; so we give these offerings in order that others may see, may know, and may believe. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ Is The World's Light"
"Word Of God, Come Down On Earth"
"I Want To Walk As A Child Of The Light"
