Second Sunday Of Advent
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Prepare The Way Of The Lord
Call To Worship
Leader: A voice cries out: "Prepare in the wilderness a road for the Lord."
People: As we worship we will do so with reverent quietness.
Leader: Let us leave behind the rush of the season, and the strident voices of our commercial world.
People: Then we will hear the voice of the prophet and prepare the way of the Lord.
Invocation
O living Christ, in this season of lights, may we look to the Light of the World. In this season of music, may we hear the message of the angels. In this season of gift-giving, may we acknowledge the greatest gift of all. In this season of merriment, may we experience the joy of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Confession
Dear Lord, we confess that like the Pharisees of old we have often refused to believe that Jesus came for the salvation of all people, and to proclaim your love for everyone -- rich and poor alike. Forgive us, we pray, for those times when we have failed to love everyone we meet, and teach us to refuse to accept the barriers our ancestors placed between people, or even those our society insists on erecting from time to time. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
We lift before you, O God, not these gifts alone, but all that we have and are. Use our gifts to multiply the effects of your work in the world. Use us to spread joy and love and peace and hope. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ For The World We Sing"
"Fairest Lord Jesus"
