Good morning, boys and girls. Today I have brought with me a road sign. In every city or town there are very special places where people come together, and these places are specially marked. For instance today I have brought with me a very special sign that says ________. (let the children read it aloud) That's right; school. Every day boys and girls from all over town get up in the morning and walk or ride to one place called the school. It's a good place to go and the sign tells our parents who drive cars to slow down a whole lot because all around them are children going to school.
Now the sign saying "School" is not where the children meet. How would you all like to sit under a sign or eat your lunch by a sign? Sounds kind of silly, doesn't it? But the sign tells everyone that a school is nearby.
This sign that I have here this morning kind of reminds me of the Bible and the way it tells people about heaven. The Bible says that heaven is nearby and that we don't want to go so fast that we miss it. The Bible isn't heaven. You can't go to Bible or live in the Bible, but it tells us some important things about where we want to go and where someday we want to live with God.
I hope you can remember what I tell you about my friends and especially about this friend that I've spoken about today, the school sign. The next time you are driving along in your car and you see a sign that says "School," you can remember that that sign is like the Bible. And when you think of the Bible, you will think of how it tells you about heaven.
