Once during Dietrich Bonhoeffer's pastorate in London in the 1930s, he was told that certain Roman Catholic congregations prayed for the imprisoned and persecuted members of the German Confessing Church. When some of his colleagues indicated that they saw nothing remarkable in that, Bonhoeffer reacted sharply, saying: "I am not indifferent to somebody praying for me."1
