Call To Worship
What if you had been called to replace one of Jesus' disciples? What if you were called to a position of responsibility in our church at a critical, uncertain time? What if the future of your work, your company, or your career depended upon your being ready to stand up for what you believe in when you are chosen?
Collect
We would be faithful, O God. We would take the risks of faith. We would live out what we believe because you have been faithful to your promises to us. In the name of Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God, many of the important things we are called upon to do appear to happen by chance. Yet when we look more closely, we see that you have been preparing us all along. To you and to those who influence the choice, we are seen as faithful, as knowing what is happening, and as ready to shoulder the task. Help us to see for ourselves our strengths. For the sake of Christ. Amen.

Call To Worship
Listen to these distant, external words about giving testimony: Give evidence, make a statement about, declare, speak as witness, give documentation, make a deposition.
Now hear these interior, personal words about testimony: "God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." Come in the name of the Son of God to worship the God who gave us eternal life.
Collect
We who believe in the Son of God have all the testimony we need within our hearts. We come to you, O God, not to be convinced but to profess our belief. All glory be to you, O life-giving God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Sometimes, God, we look in the wrong places for evidence to convince us of the truth. We ask for the courage to trust the innermost voice of the heart. You sent us Jesus for a reason. You sent us the life of the Son of God so we might know you and your ongoing concern for us, your treasured creation. Help us to believe. In the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Call To Worship
Leader: One of the hardest moments we can know is the giving back of what has become precious. It was given temporarily in holy trust. However, it is time to move on when the task is complete.
People: We know about letting go of our children. We know about turning over to someone else a project into which we have put our whole selves. We know about retiring from a career we have loved. We know about moving on beyond this earthly life. We know about uncertainty.
All: The ascension of Christ is about letting go, trusting and entrusting, and appreciating that we are all one.
Collect
We remember, O God, that you are in charge. Before our time, you were guiding. You are present to lead us now. You will continue to guide us, rejoicing, into the future. Through the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
During times of change, dear God, our confidence temporarily fades. Uncertainty and grief make our inner world spin. Help us especially during these times to be aware of your strength, the courage and ability of those around us, and the resilience you have given us for moving into the future. Be with us, we pray. Amen.
