In the 1950s, Graham Local School District came into being in rural Champaign County, Ohio. Named after A. B. Graham, founder of the 4-H Club movement, the consolidated school has been an excellent venture in rural education.
In the process, some buildings were eventually closed. One of them was the Concord Grade School building in Concord Township. A community meeting was held to consider what use could be made of the structure. Those present had attended the school there in their formative years, and they had a lot of personal interest in the building. What they have done with it is amazing.
Concord School building is now a lively community center. People of all ages are involved in activities there, from Senior Citizens down to children in athletics. There was a nice gymnasium-auditorium attached to the classrooms. The 4-H clubs meet there. They have fellowship dinners also.
The citizens themselves renovated the building which they found out had been well made to begin with. With some volunteer hard work the place is now quite attractive.
The striking fact is that the leaders of the Concord Community Center were youth in Concord Methodist Church in the 1950s. Today, these middle-agers are practicing some of the principles they learned in the church and public school years ago.
