A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
‘We knew him when,' the people cried.
'We saw him grow to manhood.
We saw him help his father as
each diligent young man would.
Where does he get the notion
that he has a right to speak thus?
How could he be a prophet, come
from God on high to seek us?'
'He speaks as with authority.
He speaks as one with answers.
We can’t believe a carpenter
is one of life’s dispensers.'
And so his hometown turned away.
They put no faith in Jesus.
So he did no great work there,
though elsewhere he’d be famous.
