Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
First Lesson: 1 Kings 21:1-10 (11-14) 15-21a
Theme: Justice Or Just Us?
Call To Worship (based on Galatians 2:15-20)
One: Yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.
All: And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law.
One: For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ;
All: and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Collect
Listen God's people -- the story is not always pleasant, but God calls us to defend and protect those without power in the face of the powers! Through Christ we are strengthened for this great work. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, in the face of racial and economic justice we have been content to stand idly by. We are called to defend those who live without justice, to befriend those who are isolated and on the margins, and to stand up to those in power who run roughshod over your people. Strengthen us, like your prophets, so the powers and principalities may truly know you live among us. Amen.
