Lectionary Worship Workbook
Series III, Cycle A
Object:
Litany
Divide the congregation into two voices.
I: From the corners of the earth you gather us in.
II: From the darkest corners of our lives you call us to the light.
I: You bless us with your holy commandments.
II: You bless us with your abundant grace.
I: As we await your coming, let us live in your grace.
II: As we await your coming, guide us through every storm.
I and II: May our lives be living signs of your goodness. Amen.
Prayer Of The Day
P: The winds blow, the rains fall, the flood waters rise, but you, O Lord, will shelter us through every danger. Make your holy church a living instrument of grace, that through every storm our lives would be lived in faithful obedience to the one who is the author and giver of all life. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.
Offertory Prayer
C: Like a pebble in the sand, we would be lost without you, O God, but your goodness and mercy will never be washed away. We thank you for such eternal love and we offer these gifts before you as a sign that we do remember that you are the one who gives everything for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Benediction
P: Be not ashamed of the gospel;
it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who has faith.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.

Service Notes
Invite members to come forward during the hymn of the day and to take their rocks and to place them into the shape of a cross on the floor in front of the altar. (Have some extra rocks available for visitors and for the forgetful.) Have the choir or soloist alone sing the middle two verses of the hymn, giving ample opportunity for people to come forward. It will serve as one more reminder of the Rock on whom the church is built.
This is also Memorial Day weekend in the United States. Be sure to include appropriate remembrances during the intercessions. There will only be a small percentage that will attend services the following day, and this gives more people a chance to engage in such a thankful reflection.
