A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
Blind Bartimaeus, hearing Jesus pass,
let out a shout,
'You Son of David, pity me
for you can help me out.'
He asked not for a beggar’s gift
of gold or other coin,
but rather, for the gift of sight
that others he might join.
Then Jesus spoke and said to him
in words that would console,
'As you believe that I can heal,
your faith has made you whole.'
What joy for Bartimaeus then
was carried in those words.
For then the first face that he saw
was Jesus Christ, the Lord’s.
let out a shout,
'You Son of David, pity me
for you can help me out.'
He asked not for a beggar’s gift
of gold or other coin,
but rather, for the gift of sight
that others he might join.
Then Jesus spoke and said to him
in words that would console,
'As you believe that I can heal,
your faith has made you whole.'
What joy for Bartimaeus then
was carried in those words.
For then the first face that he saw
was Jesus Christ, the Lord’s.
