Full seventy times seven, Lord?
If I forgive another
As many times as that, he'll think
I love him like a brother.
And think how hard it would be, Lord,
Just keeping track; The number
Would be beyond remembrance.
My brain it would encumber.
I'd have to buy a ledger and
Keep lists of my forgiving.
And that would be a lot of work.
'Twould take the joy from living.
And then, if I should lose the book
Recording all my merit,
The loss would be horrendous.
I'm not sure that I could bear it.
When came the time to not forgive,
I think I'd want to grab it.
But, on the other hand, forgiving
Might become a habit.
Lord, now you have me wondering.
Is this a panacea?
If pardoning were habit,
That could be your whole idea.
If I forgive another
