Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would stand true for the Lord gather now for worship!
People: And let us be known as the followers of the risen Christ.
Leader: Known not by our words alone but by how we love and help all around us.
People: For truly we have known the mercy and grace of the Lord in our lives.
Leader: Then let us share the blessings of Christ in all that we do in life.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and loving God, You are total integrity and You have called us to walk with You, no matter what the cost, in the way we would live and treat others. Give us Your strength, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have failed to be the loving and honest people of integrity You would have us be. Too often, Lord, we have held back a part of the truth to avoid being quite so embarrassed or ashamed rather than being fully honest, as You would have us be. Forgive us, God, and help us have the wisdom and courage to live for You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Be Thou My Vision"
"Holy Spirit, Truth Divine"
"Lord, I Want To Be A Christian"
Proper 18
Sunday between September 4 and September 10 inclusive
Second Lesson: James 2:1-10 (11-13) 14-17
Theme: Loving others by God's standards
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, all who seek the presence of the Lord, and let us worship!
People: But some are rich and some are poor and not all have learned fine words.
Leader: In the eyes of the Lord all are wonderful and lovely children.
People: But can the poor be as lovely as the rich, or the polished as lovely as the rough?
Leader: To the Lord, we are every one God's people, whom Christ died to save.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You are so magnificent and mighty, yet You have chosen to love and cherish even those who are the least in the eyes of the world. Help us to love and accept others as You do, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, even though we have heard of Your accepting love, we have been tempted to believe, in our most private thoughts, that we really are more special to You than perhaps those who are in some way not like us. Forgive us, Lord, and help us be about Your command to love one another truly and not just love those who remind us of ourselves. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Love, Mercy, And Grace"
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling"
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
Proper 18
Sunday between September 4 and September 10 inclusive
Gospel: Mark 7:24-37
Theme: The Lord who heals and saves us.
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come together all who would seek God's voice today!
People: But the noise of the world is so loud and our hearing is so faint.
Leader: Yet the Lord opened the ears of those who sought the word of God.
People: May God touch our hearts this day that we also might hear God's word.
Leader: And let our hearts proclaim God's love for all the world to hear!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God of mercy and love, You have always been our healing and sustaining power and we seek Your healing for today's world. Call us anew, Lord, to Your task of spreading the Good News. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have allowed the ways of the world to be our ways instead of seeking out and living according to Your ways. So often we have chosen to listen only to the voices of those around us rather than seeking out Your word for our lives. Forgive us, Lord, and open our hearts anew to the strength and courage of Your Gospel. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Precious Lord, Take My Hand"
"Be Still, My Soul"
"Hymns Of Promise"
