Many folks had left the Lord
when his mighty claim they heard:
that his father’d sent him out,
brand new life to bring about.
They would not believe his claim
that, as bread of life he came,
words of life to bring to them,
their eternal death to stem.
Jesus turned then to the twelve,
asked them in their hearts to delve,
asked if they would leave him too
as the others all would do.
This time Peter spoke up well.
He wished not to say farewell.
He’d stay with Jesus; reason is
