Call To Worship
Leader: Let us come and worship together our loving and wonderful God!
People: For the Lord is faithful to those who seek to follow God's will.
Leader: Our God is quick to forgive when we repent and seek forgiveness.
People: No nation on earth will have victory against God's faithful people.
Leader: Let all who will hear: our God is Holy and greatly to be praised.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and merciful God, for Your name's sake You have blessed us and given us Your strength and Your presence to sustain us and to be our guide daily. Help us, Lord, to share Your love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we have often failed to understand that You have called us to be witnesses of Your mercy and grace not because of our merits, but because You are love itself. And too often we have been content to seek Your blessings, but we would not share them with those in need. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to share the wonder of Your love with all who will hear. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"A Mighty Fortress"
"Standing On The Promises"
"O Jesus, I Have Promised"
Proper 16
Sunday between August 21 and August 27 inclusive
Second Lesson: Ephesians 6:10-20
Theme: The full armor of God
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who would serve the Lord prepare in worship for battle!
People: For the forces of the enemy are great and we need God's power.
Leader: Let us put on the full armor of God and be prepared to do battle.
People: Do not fail to put on a single piece of armor, for the enemy is strong.
Leader: The victory belongs to the Lord, for no power can prevail against God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, only Your strength and power can stand victorious against the forces of darkness. We thank You for Your full armor and we ask You to help us wear it diligently. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have failed to understand that it is You and You alone Who sustains us, and not our mortal strength. Too often, O God, in this modern age we have trusted ourselves and our technologies to be our salvation instead, and we have dismissed Your real saving power and the forces of darkness simply as concepts from the past. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"On Christ The Solid Rock I Stand"
"Lead On, O King Eternal"
"More Love To Thee, O Christ"
Proper 16
Sunday between August 21 and August 27 inclusive
Gospel: John 6:56-69
Theme: The Lord alone is our Savior.
Call To Worship
Leader: Be still and know the presence of the Lord!
People: But we are not worthy to stand before the Lord God Almighty!
Leader: Hear this word: the Lord knows our hearts well, yet loves us still.
People: Does God know even the dark things we dare not share with anyone?
Leader: Yes! But in Christ we are granted forgiveness; we are washed pure and clean.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, while we were yet lost and wandering in the ways of the world, You saw our great need and sent us a Savior. Call us again, Lord, to be Your people, and make of us Your blessings. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, how often we have failed to see that it was You who first loved us and not we who first came to You; that when we were lost and astray, You were the Good Shepherd who guided us back to the fold. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to see that we are sent to share with the world that same forgiving and accepting love You first gave to us. In Christ we pray. Amen.
