A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
Jesus came across the water
as th' apostles rowed in vain,
for the wind and waves about them
cancelled most of every gain.
When they saw him, they were fearful,
told each other, 'It's a ghost.'
But he spoke and reassured them,
quieted their fears, almost.
As he climbed into their vessel,
calm the winds became and hushed.
They were sore amazed and wondered
and their countenances flushed.
Was he walking? Was he swimming?
Were his sandals wet or dry?
as th' apostles rowed in vain,
for the wind and waves about them
cancelled most of every gain.
When they saw him, they were fearful,
told each other, 'It's a ghost.'
But he spoke and reassured them,
quieted their fears, almost.
As he climbed into their vessel,
calm the winds became and hushed.
They were sore amazed and wondered
and their countenances flushed.
Was he walking? Was he swimming?
Were his sandals wet or dry?
