Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
When Jesus called a dozen
from the field and shop and shore,
they all rose up and followed,
were with him a year or more.
By parables he taught them,
how his Father’s kingdom was.
They were learning as they watched him
heal the sick and leperous.
But the time came when, no longer
did he tell them only, 'Come.'
He also told them, 'Go and heal
the blind, the deaf and dumb.'
He sent them out to preach and
call the people to repent.
And, two and two together,
they went out as they were sent.
