The problem of hunger in the world never seems to go away. Those who keep track of these things say more than 850 million people across the world are hungry, a number that is on the increase. Every day, more than 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes -- one child every five seconds. Most poor people who battle hunger deal with chronic undernourishment and vitamin or mineral deficiencies, which result in stunted growth, weakness, and heightened susceptibility to illness.
