Preaching Resurrection In John
If a Sermon Falls in the Forest...
Preaching Resurrection Texts
Someone once complained that in the Gospel of John, Jesus walks two feet above the ground. After only a few pages it is clear that we are not dealing with a simple peasant who told familiar stories about seeds, yeast, and the birds of the air. Jesus is "the Word made flesh" (1:14) and that Word is no less than the source of creation, the very Divine Being (1:1-3). To decide for or against Jesus is to choose life, light, truth, indeed God -- or not (1:10-14). To some, John almost seems guilty of giving us a "docetic" Jesus -- one who only "seems" to be human.
