Dear Mysterious Presence:
As you surely have recognized, humans always have been aware of you, though your full identity has been a mystery to them. Early members of the race thought of you as a variety of spirits, present in rocks, trees, the wind, thunder, and almost every other physical phenomenon. In time, they gave the spirits symbolic human forms and organized them in a pantheon of deities. The prophets and other sensitive people perceived your unity and spoke of you as a single personal entity.
