Prayers for the Age of Technology

Dear Creator And Sustainer:
By enabling us to develop the tools of modern science, you have expressed great confidence in us. You have let us in on many secrets of the natural order around us. You have blessed us with a more comfortable and satisfying physical existence. You have provided the means by which we can reason in a much sounder and more mature way. In short, you have made us feel like adults rather than children.
It is as though a concerned parent, anxiously watching his children grow, has concluded that they are sufficiently mature to be invited into limited partnership in the family enterprise. Happy and proud, the offspring, feeling pleased and honored, assume their place enthusiastically.
Limited experience and the immaturity of youth, however, are still very much with us. Our need of much patience and extensive supervision is very evident. Help us to control our brash, youthful impulses and to assume our newly assigned responsibilities in a commendable manner.
Guide us to a better understanding of how to relate to you in ways appropriate to our new level of maturity. Show us the best ways to use the new knowledge and skills we are acquiring. Give us the clarity of vision and strength of will to make right choices and decisions as we proceed.
Keep us reminded to try to be like Jesus in all that we do. Amen.
