These Will Preach!
Stories and Metaphors for the Pulpit
In my childhood my pastor, Christian Wessel, was like a father to me. I adored him. While fishing in the Greenville, Ohio, park lagoon, the day after they stocked it for the boy scout fishing contest and a day before the boy scouts arrived, he waded into the water waist-deep to retrieve a fishing pole being dragged by a fish. He then stood on the bank, took off his pants, and wrung them out. I remember thinking to myself: "Look, he wears underwear like I do!" It was one of the signs to this little boy that I too would be a pastor.
