Dr. Ralph Sockman, for many years the pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, New York City, had a great description of how the Christian faith works. Said he: "If we take the parts of an ocean liner, one at a time, and put them in the ocean, they would sink to the bottom. Consider a huge motor, or a single piece of the hull: they would both sink. But when all parts are assembled in their proper place, and attached to each other as a working project, the ship will float."
We may not understand all that there is to know about the things of Almighty God. We ask, "Why?" about so many of them. Like "Why do the good people suffer?" or "Why do the wicked prosper while the hard-working, totally sincere people, often do not get their fair share in life?" "Why are there so many wars?"
God has things and beliefs yet to be seen and used. Some day we may see some of the answers, and maybe not. If we accept all in total trust in him, it will prove itself. Like when all the parts of the ship were assembled, it worked. (See Romans 8:28 NRSV.)
