Pastor: Who concocted the story?
People: Certainly not Mary of Magdala. She went to the tomb to grieve over the dead body of her beloved Jesus.
Pastor: Certainly not the disciples. They were hiding out of fear for their lives. Even after they heard the story of the empty tomb, they thought the women were mad with grief.
People: It wouldn't have been the religious authorities who instigated His death; and the Roman officials would have thought that the notion of a resurrection was preposterous!
Pastor: In fact, no one alive at the time was prepared to make up a story of a resurrected Lord. They had death on their minds, not life. They had fear and despair in their hearts, not victory. There is only one reason that we come to worship today: The resurrection happened by the plan of God, regardless of human understanding.
People: We come to worship the Lord of life, not the god of death. We come to celebrate our risen Savior, who is alive and in the world, redeeming His people this very day!
