Presidents' Day
Pastor: Come, join me in worship, and consider with me our heritage from the past, on this Presidents' Sunday.
People: We give thanks for the heritage we have received from men and women in the past, who have laid foundations for us of honor and integrity, faith and commitment to high ideals that call forth from us the best that we can be, under God in whom we trust.
Pastor: Join me in praying "A Prayer For Our Country" authored by our first President, George Washington: "Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage, we humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will.
People: "Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.
Pastor: "Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought out of many kindreds and tongues.
People: "Endue with the spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be peace and justice at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.
Pastor: "In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail.
People: "All of which we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen." (Public domain. English modernized.)
