Jesus tells us the parable of The Good Samaritan, in which a
foreigner stops to give aid to a brutalized robbery victim, after
two religious leaders passed by, giving wide berth to any
responsibility for this injured stranger. We most often focus on
this story as an impetus to respond to social/racial issues. But
Jesus told the story, not to stand alone, but to illustrate the
primary issue under discussion: living in a loving relationship
with God. (Luke 10:25ff) If that relationship is in place, as we
