Moses, The Baby
Children's sermon
Story Time At The Altar
86 Messages For Children
Once upon a time there was an evil king who ordered that all boy Hebrew babies were to be killed. So when the baby Moses was born, the mother made a waterproof basket, put the baby in it, and said to his sister, Miriam, "Keep the baby safe!"
Miriam did as her mother said and hid Moses in the river. One day the king's daughter came to the river to bathe and found the baby. He was crying, so she picked him up and comforted him, thinking, "This must be a Hebrew baby."
When Miriam saw this, she was afraid, for her work was to keep the baby safe. Miriam took a deep breath, said a quick prayer, "God, help me!" and waded into the water toward the princess. "Shall I get the baby a nurse from the Hebrew women?" she asked.
The princess said, "Yes, my child." Miriam called her mother, and when Moses was old enough, they brought him to the princess who gave him his name because, as she said, "I drew him out of the water."
Talk together: What do you know about Moses? How did Miriam take care of her baby brother?
Prayer: Dear God, we thank you for familes who love and care for each other. Help us remember that we are all one family and part of your creation. Amen.
