Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
Gospel Lesson: John 13:1-17, 31b-35
Theme: Why Is This Night So Different?
Call To Worship
One: Why is this night so different from all others?
All: Tonight we seek with God's grace to answer the question, "What would Jesus do?"
One: Why is this night the same as all others?
All: The call of Jesus Christ is the same -- to bend the knee in service to each other, to break bread in fellowship, and to drain the cup in remembrance of the Lord's death, until he returns.
One And All: Come, let us gather together in the name of Jesus the Christ, Lord and Savior, sharing this communion with believers around the world.
Collect
Lord, bless us as we gather together in your name, following your example, as we strive to serve your people. We will take hold of the salvation that we share, cherishing the precious gift of your words and deeds, and imperfectly imitate your perfection. For your example, and for the example of your servants who have reflected your light for our benefit, we give you thanks and praise. Amen!
Prayer Of Confession
Bless this meal, Lord, we pray, and grace us with your presence, unseen as you dwell in our midst, and visible in our sisters and brothers who have in turn graced us with their presence. Nourish us physically and spiritually as we resolve once more to live your will in this present world, and in the world to come. Amen.
