Make A List For God
Children's sermon

Matthew To Revelation
Object: a shopping list
Good morning, boys and girls. Have you ever gone to the store needing to buy several things? How do you remember them all? (let them answer) That's right - a shopping list. Lists are a great way to help us remember.
God likes lists also. Did you know that God likes for you to make out lists for him? (let them answer) That's true. As a matter of fact, when the Apostle Paul was talking to the people of Philippi, he told them that they should keep lists of things that they wanted to ask or share with God, and then tell God about them when they prayed. That's a good idea. We could all keep lists of the things that we want to talk over with God. Paul said that some of the things could be requests - that means things that we need from God. There are a lot of things that only God can give, and we should let him know about them.
Suppose that we were going to make a list today of the things that we wanted to ask God. I wonder what they would be. I probably would not ask God for a bicycle, but I think that I would ask him for some extra--special love to share with the mean old man who lives across the street from me. I know I don't have enough love by myself and only God could give me enough love to love that mean man. If I loved him really good, then maybe he would not be so mean to anyone anymore.
What would you ask from God if you could write out a list? (let them answer) Those are some pretty good things to ask God for, and I hope that you will think about them not only today, but every day. Lists for shopping are great, but you can only look for those things when you go to the store. When you make out lists to ask God, you can ask him every day. That's pretty great. I think so and so do all Christians that love him and share him with each other.
