Love within the family

LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Call to Worship
Pastor:
In wisdom, God has created us to live in families, where we thrive on one another's love.
People:
Without the bond of family love, we are incomplete, and do not experience the joy of wholeness.
Pastor:
We rejoice in that wholeness, only when we give ourselves in total commitment to the rest of the family.
People:
May our commitment be such, that life and death, joy and sorrow, faith and love, may be a mutual sharing within our families!
Collect
Gracious Father, who has created the family to be a source of identity and wholeness through the sharing of mutual love: Strengthen our families with sincere love and unity among all members, that we may experience the true joy of being your children. In the name of Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
With gratitude, we express our praise to you, O God, for the blessing of family ties. But so often we want to receive from the family more than we contribute. Forgive us when our selfish ways hinder the wholeness which you intend each family member to achieve. Help us so to love, that our lives will be a source of joy in our homes. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Allegiance to nation and to God
Call to Worship
Pastor:
Allegiance to our nation is God's will; but it must not hinder our allegiance to God.
People:
And allegiance to God ought not to keep us from being responsible citizens in our nation.
Pastor:
Our nation deserves our loyalty. But every government is finally responsible to God. It cannot claim what belongs to God.
People:
We thank God for our nation, and pledge our allegiance to it. And we reaffirm our faith in God, the final ruler of all nations.
Collect
Almighty God, who holds all nations responsible to your divine authority: Give us the conviction to be true in our allegiance, both to our nation and to you; that we may be strong in our faith, and give strength to our nation through our faith. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
We love our nation, Father, and commit ourselves to its support and defense. But we would not want that allegiance to interfere with our devotion to you. Nevertheless, we interfere with it ourselves through apathy. Forgive us when we are so careless in giving you what is yours, but continue to expect you to bless our land and our lives. Make us a strong nation to people who are sincere in our devotion to you, and in our support of one another. In our Savior's name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"God of Our Fathers"
"My Country, 'Tis of Thee"
"Once to Every Man and Nation"
