Living Water

Object:
A paper cup, a pitcher, a bucket, and a hose.
Message: Do you remember those hot days in the summer when you just can't seem to cool off? You sit down in the air conditioning and you feel okay, but as soon as you start moving around, or go outside to have some fun, you get so hot you can hardly believe it! I want you to pretend this is one of those days. You have done everything you can think of to stay cool and none of those ideas is working. So you finally decide to go outside and fill up your little poo with water to see if that will keep you cool.
Today I brought along a number of things that you could use to fill that pool. I was wondering which you thought would be the best. First, I have this paper cup. Now I figure you should be able to fill that pool after about 2,000 trips to the sink with that cup. Would that be a good way to do it? No, you would probably be hotter than before. What about this pitcher? Maybe this would be better. It is much larger and holds a lot more than the cup did! Even though it is better, it still isn't great. What about a bucket? That holds about ten times as much as the pitcher! That would work, except that it is very heavy once you get the water in it. That's not really going to do it.
The only thing I have left is this hose. What do you think about that? Yes, that is a great idea! It will give a continuous flow of water from the faucet to the pool and all we have to do is watch and get ready to jump in!
Jesus said that if a person believes in Him, streams of living water would flow out of that person's heart. Just like the water pours out of this hose, so the love of Jesus and His power and joy will flow out of our hearts as we follow Him. When that happens, we touch the people around us with His love in a powerful way. We are not giving them just a little bit of Christ, as would this cup. Instead we are showing them that being a Christian is the best thing that can happen to us and leading them to want to know Jesus as well!
