Object:
A bouquet of flowers, either at the front of the church or one you brought with you.
Purpose: To see in a flower the greatness of God's creation and the wonder of our own individuality.
Material: A bouquet of flowers, either at the front of the church or one you brought with you.
Lesson: Today, I would like to play a guessing game with you. Here is the first clue. Almost every Sunday, when we gather here in our church, we all look upon something that is always different, yet it always has the same name. (Modify this if you do not use flowers in your church.) What is it? ...
(Second clue, if needed.) There are usually two of them (or whatever number of bouquets are usually displayed at the front of your church). What is it? ...
(Third clue, if needed.) They are made of flowers. What is it? ... A bouquet.
Every Sunday, we are reminded of the greatness of God's creation as we look at the beautiful flowers that he has formed. They come in all kinds of colors and shapes and sizes, and it is because of the different flowers that the bouquet is so beautiful.
There is a lesson for us here. Sometimes we get upset with others because they do something in a different way than what we would do it. Or they do not like the same things that we like. Or they dress in a different way. When other boys and
girls do not want to do what you want to do, don't get angry with them. Just recognize that they are different and that is all right. God has made us all different and we need to be thankful for that difference and to see how it adds beauty to our shared lives.
(If you have access to a copy machine.) As a reminder of what we thought about today. I have a drawing of a bouquet that you can take home and color. Perhaps you can send it to your grandparents.
Possible Times To Use This Illustration In The Home:
• When you have a bouquet of flowers in your home, and you need to help your child understand the beauty of being different.
• When you have provided the flowers for your church's service of worship.
• When you have visited a florist or a greenhouse.
Scriptural Background: ''Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil or spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these'' (Matthew 6:28, 29).
Material: A bouquet of flowers, either at the front of the church or one you brought with you.
