Series VI, Cycle B
Call To Worship
Leader: I will always thank the Lord; I will never stop praising him.
People: I will praise him for what he has done; may all who are oppressed listen and be glad!
Leader: Proclaim with me the Lord's greatness;
People: let us praise his name together.
Collect
O God, we thank you for your patience with us as we struggle to keep our faith in you even as we face life's trials and tribulations. Like a loving parent you persist with us until at last we see for ourselves the right direction our lives should go. Then in your bountiful goodness you give us new life. Thanks be to you, Heavenly Father. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, you call us to follow you, and we are willing as long as you lead us through green pastures and beside still waters. However, when the trail leads through fields covered with thorns or across raging rivers, our courage fails, and we hold back. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to realize that today is the day we are to follow you no matter what lies ahead. Amen.
Hymns
"I Need Thee Every Hour"
"Close To Thee"
Proper 25/Ordinary Time 30
Sunday between October 23 and October 29 inclusive
Second Lesson: Hebrews 7:23-28
Theme: Jesus, Our High Priest Forever
Call To Worship
Leader: I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me;
People: he freed me from all my fears.
Leader: The oppressed look to him and are glad;
People: they will never be disappointed.
Leader: The helpless call to him, and he answers;
People: he saves them from all their troubles.
Collect
Good Lord, you are more than fair; you are merciful. You are not stingy but generous in your blessings bestowed on us. You are more than approachable; you are loving and outgoing. We do not love you as we ought, but we do love you. Accept our love and help us to love you more. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we are so thankful that we have an advocate with the Father, even Jesus Christ, your Son and our High Priest. It costs so little to be kind, and yet that seems too much for us. We are unwilling to take the time or go out of our way to help our neighbor. Forgive us, we pray, for your great mercy's sake, and help us break the cycle of our busyness so we can stop long enough to see the opportunities for serving you that confront us daily. Amen.
Hymns
"O God In Heaven"
"Standing On The Promises"
Proper 25/Ordinary Time 30
Sunday between October 23 and October 29 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 10:46-52
Theme: Faith With Action Brings New Vision
Call To Worship
Leader: The righteous call to the Lord, and he listens;
People: he rescues them from all their troubles.
Leader: The Lord is near to those who are discouraged;
People: he saves those who have lost all hope.
Leader: Good people suffer many troubles,
People: but the Lord saves them from them all.
Collect
Almighty God, in times of weakness as well as strength, in times of darkness as well as light, you have blessed us. Grant, our Father, that this may be a new day for each one of us. Heal the blindness of our spirits that we may have a new vision of our calling and a new awareness of our purpose. Give to us the vision to see where you go before us on life's road that we may follow you more closely and serve you by serving others. May we discover those deep inner resources of love made available to us in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we find life closing in on us. We do not know what the future holds and we are afraid. We are blinded by the cries of the world to satisfy our own desires, and we find it difficult to see the road you would have us travel. We know that you can help us to see more clearly, and so we pray that you will give us new insight and a new determination to follow you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say"
